Snapper bite is on
Report Date: April 5, 2008
Sail fishing remains slow; if you put in the time you should catch one. The best plan is to use live bait with a trace of wire to catch some kings while you wait for a sail. Don't forget a deep bait to get a bottom fish. The high winds have caused the water to become very dirty: perfect conditions for the mutton snappers on the patch reefs in 20 to 40 feet of water. The Yellowtail snapper will come to the chum and under them the will be the mutton snappers and groupers. A heavy rod on the bottom will catch those bottom fish.
Due to the high winds, this week we have been fishing the Everglades Park. We caught trout to 22 inches, Mangrove snappers to over 2 an a half pounds and a couple of Bull sharks to over a 100 pounds. Not bad with the wind blowing over 20 miles an hour.
The Tarpon fishing is starting to come alive. We been catching them; but not on a consistent basis. When the wind settles down; the fish should turn on. The ones we caught have been on live mullet.
