Grouper Fishing Remains Good

Report Date: March 7, 2007

The offshore fishing remains slow. There are some kings around, but not many. No sails to talk about. The deep water snappers are not eating. However, the black groupers are on the bottom. Heavy tackle and live baits are the ticket.

Most of the action in happening in the 30 foot range. Good numbers of 1 pound yellowtails, nice ceros mackerels and some red groupers and mutton snappers on the bottom.

Last Thursdays I ran back to the gulf to try for some Spanish macks and sharks. We found the fish no problem. The mackerel were on the small size. We also caught a couple of trout, snappers and one shark.

Friday night I made my first Tarpon trip. We hooked two tarpon. One we lost to the bridge; the other one we landed. The fish was over a 100#.
